Crafting Connections

2024

Crafting Connections is a series of works that explore how jewellery can build community by physically crafting connections between people. Jewellery designed to be worn by more than one person at a time, or in a way that requires assistance, intends to break down social and personal barriers through shared gestures and playful interaction. In this project, at either end of the piece stands a ring. Between them: tens of beaded threads, strung loosely to allow space and silence. When worn, the two ends are pulled into spontaneous patterns, echoing the unpredictability and rhythm of conversation. The threads act like raindrops on a spider web or water on a wire fence—two elements working in unison to create a fleeting and beautiful form. The piece is slightly awkward to wear alone but expands in meaning and shape when shared, echoing the give-and-take of human exchange. In a time marked by distance and disconnection, this work gestures towards the essence of face-to-face interaction.

This work was selected for the Contemporary Wearables Jewellery Biennale in 2025 at Twoowomba Regional Gallery in NSW, Australia.
